REVIEW 14 - 15 - 16 January 2010
InterSOLUTION shone brightly

For many professionals, there was again much to discover at the International Trade Fair for Solar Energy which took place at the Flanders Expo in Ghent/Belgium from 14 to 16January 2010.

InterSOLUTION was pleased to see that the economy of the future will increasingly gravitate around sustainable energy. The figures do not lie.

To break into this niche market, a considerable number of exhibitors came together for InterSOLUTION’s second edition. Around 100 internationally acclaimed exhibitors of various nationalities put on a greatdisplay.

This was also evident from the impressive stands and the publicity given to this fair by manyexhibitors. Add to that the InterSOLUTION team’s inexhaustible energy and what you end up with is an impressive number of visitors: 4,847 professionals from Belgium and abroad (& 11%). From all corners of the globe, visitors found their way to InterSOLUTION, but the number of Dutch attendees stood out in particular (18%).

In addition to the cutting-edge exhibitions spread over 8000m², the Flanders Expo roof provided a large additional showroom displaying 54.000m² of PV panels. This project, achieved through the collaboration of Derbigum and Enfinity, could be overseen during the fair from an elevating platform for all those who were not afraid of heights. Delphine Martens, the exhibition manager, and Marja Nieuwveld, the exhibition spokesperson, also took their chances and headed for the roof. “It was very impressive to see and proved that solar energy has indeed a solid future”, said M. Nieuwveld.

There are many new things under the sun!

At Lapp Benelux, we also discovered something rather special under the sun. The company had originally planned to present the “Umicar Inspire”, Leuven University’s solar car, following the World Solar Challenge in Australia. No such luck, unfortunately: the solar car crashed during race at the end of last year. Luckily, Lapp’s team managed to present the model which participated in the 2007 race. Visitors could therefore admire the “Umicar Infinity” instead. The uninitiated will find it hard to tell the one from the other, but insiders know that new technologies in this sector advanced very rapidly between both models.

Numerous small and large innovations in the field of PV and thermal systems, converters, cables and mounting materials were also on show. Too many to mention in fact. So make sure you do not miss our next edition, because developments in the land of solar energy are happening at the speed of light.

Trends also became established. Unlike Belgian specialised visitors maybe, the Dutch are predominantly interested in project-based applications and therefore in the integrated systems on display.

InterSOLUTION is headed towards a bright future.

The second edition of the trade fair was already held on double the surface area of the first edition, a trend that will continue. At the end of last year, we were proud to be able to say that we were fully booked, and during the home stretch we even ended up with a waiting list of approximately 40 exhibitors who were eager to show off their new products. They may have better luck next time (if of course they conform to our strict admissions policy), as the fair will be held in the Main Hall, with a total surface area of approximately. 10.000m².

All in all, InterSOLUTION was a great success and shone brightly in terms of innovation in the solar energy industry. An exhibition that no professional can afford to miss, so please make a note of InterSOLUTION’s 3rd edition right away:
27, 28 and 29 January 2011.
